The microsatellite that San Jose engineers build will carry the human senses, part of our reasoning ability and will make precise measurements. These digital observations will be transmitted back to Earth to draw conclusions and advance our understanding of behaviors from a wide array of scientific evaluations. The spacecraft must incorporate many human-like features, and it must also provide a platform for the science observations.
The heart of the mission will be the science instruments. Because the orbiter and probe will have a total of 18 scientific instruments on board, the amount of data to be stored and then transmitted to Earth will be immense. The main antenna will be 4 meters in diameter and sends data up to 249 kilobits per second. Two low gain antennas will be used to transmit data and receive commands. It will be designed to carry equipment for twelve science experiments, and the Spuygens probe, which will detach from the orbiter several months after launch.
Pataphyisics Parallel Processor
The orbiter will also contain some new technology, the PPP, Pataphyisics Parallel Processor, a self programming fully autonomous observation engine aboard CADRES V1 that will help keep the mass of the spacecraft down and add to the reliability and longevity of the hardware. The importance of this is that the lighter and sturdier the spacecraft is, the more science equipment it can carry and the longer it can operate. The CADRES V1 is being designed with robustness, materials that can withstand temperature extremes, the impacts of micrometoroids and shield sensitive equipment from damage due to solar flares and galactic cosmic rays. Hardware redundancy is also a critical feature in ensuring a robust system.

Autonomy is key, creating a satellite that relies on itself to detect problems and find solutions. The satellite system fault protection ensures the maintenance of orbiter system integrity and the capability to accomplish major mission objectives in the presence of anomalous conditions such as equipment failure or loss of critical functions.
