Talk about synchronicity. Sour Grapes is published on 20 October and the following weekend, the first lady of UK wine, Jancis Robinson, unburdens herself on “the most frightening period of my professional life” – judging last year’s Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show. Her elegantly crafted account appeared in the Financial Times. I covered the same events in a more sideways fashion on page 46 of Sour Grapes, reproduced below:

Dildos, foreskins and matric art: should Cohen and Pienaar have been dumped? by Sarah Britten on October 21st, 2008 Ah, the universe works in mysterious ways. Just the other day a South African friend and colleague and I were wondering what on earth happened to Steven Cohen. And lo and behold, here he is again, complaining because, along with Peet Pienaar, he has ...

AK: at the beginning of the film the young recruits are singing a song. what is this song? what do the words mean? PE: The song was being sung by some of the recruits as they were “marching” away from the head shaving rooms. Not all the recruits were singing, some didn’t know how or didn’t want to. I wanted the film to be in the nonverbal genre. This song and the chatter that occurs in the shaving room are the only “words” in the film. There is no narrator or contextualisation beyond the vis

Gabriel Kuri, Trinity (voucher), Handwoven wool Gobelin (woven in Guadalajara) As soon as I saw Ed Ruscha's Industrial Strength Sleep tapestry at the Fabric Workshop and Museum, this piece by Mexican artist Gabriel Kuri popped into my mind. I had seen it last year at Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art, in an exhibit of work from Mexico (post here).Kuri's Trinity is a faithful reproduction of a computer-register receipt with the color copies. And it's handwoven in Mexico, which of course raise

Fusain Animé

Sun, 2008-10-12 00:06

Anniversary ~ 36 Months

(Notes on) Politics, Theory & Photography is now three years old. I first posted on 24 September 2005. Since then I've made over 1500 posts. I downloaded a site meter three years ago today and according to that counter have now had just shy of 219,000 visitors. Checking my records, it seems that considerably more than half of those have dropped by in just the last year.In many ways this blog has been a life-saver for me over the past couple of years. Not the only one - but surely very important
